Isaac's name means “he laughs” — and nearly everyone in his birth story does.
יִצְחָקyiṣḥāqhe laughs
Abraham laughed when he was told (17:17). Sarah laughed inside the tent and then denied it (18:12–15). When the boy was born she said, “God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.” The laughter moves from disbelief to joy, and the child carries it in his name.
