Easy to miss

Exodus remembers the names of two midwives — and never gives Pharaoh's.

The king of Egypt, the most powerful man in the world, is only ever “Pharaoh.” But the two Hebrew midwives who refused his order to kill the baby boys are named: Shiphrah and Puah. They “feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them.” Scripture keeps the names of the faithful and lets the tyrant fade.
