Classical Greek doxa meant what people think of you — opinion, reputation. The Septuagint hijacked it to translate kābôd, weight, and the New Testament inherits the heavier meaning. "The glory of the Lord shone round about them" (Luke 2:9) is not reputation.

Paul's promise that we are "changed into the same image from glory to glory" (2 Corinthians 3:18) uses the word for a process of transformation, which Latter-day Saints read alongside D&C 76 and its three degrees of glory, and alongside D&C 93:36 — "the glory of God is intelligence."
