Ana (again, up) plus stasis (standing). The Greeks knew of immortal souls; a bodily standing-up-again was the scandal. When Paul preached anastasis in Athens, the crowd's response was mockery (Acts 17:32) — precisely because Greek thought regarded the body as what the soul escapes.

1 Corinthians 15 stakes everything on it: "if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain." Latter-day Saint scripture is unusually specific about what resurrection restores — "every limb and joint shall be restored to its body" (Alma 11:43) — and about who receives it: all people, without exception (1 Corinthians 15:22; 2 Nephi 9:22).
