From koinos, common. Acts 2:42–45 uses it of the earliest Church, where believers continued in the apostles' doctrine and koinōnia and "had all things common" — the same root. Fellowship in the New Testament has an economic edge that English "fellowship" has entirely lost.

The Restoration reads this pattern as the law of consecration (D&C 42:30–34; 4 Nephi 1:3), and treats Zion — "of one heart and one mind... and there was no poor among them" (Moses 7:18) — as its goal rather than its accident.
