Kardia inherits the whole range of Hebrew lēb: thought and will as much as feeling. "Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts" (Matthew 15:19) is a statement about the mind's workshop.

The Beatitude "blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God" (Matthew 5:8) is therefore about undivided intent, and the Restoration promises the same with characteristic literalness in D&C 93:1 — every soul who forsakes sins and keeps the commandments "shall see my face and know that I am."
