ʾădāmāh

The soil from which ʾādām is taken and to which, after the Fall, he returns (Genesis 3:19). When the ground is cursed "for thy sake" (Genesis 3:17), the curse falls on the ʾădāmāh, not on Adam — a distinction the Restoration presses hard. Moses 4:23 keeps the same phrasing, and Latter-day Saint teaching reads the resulting labour as a mercy and a means of growth rather than a punishment (see 2 Nephi 2:19–25).
